Point of Existence

The new Point of Existence mod is, in a word, awesome.

The BF2 incarnation of the former BF:V modification is intense, to say the least. Many of the maps focus on short range infantry fighting; the map named Fallen, for example, is set in a dimly lit forest, where players are tasked to either defend or capture one of three waypoints surrounding a downed Blackhawk helicopter. The mist and the trees make for an eerie map in which players are often forced to advance in small groups under careful cover. Ambushes are always explosive.

But, POE2 doesn't stop with infantry skirmishes -- many of the maps include the ingredients for heavy armor battles on the ground and myriad aircraft in the skies (including the new German attack chopper, the Tiger).

In the last few hours that we have been playing this mod, one of the "features" which has become quite clear is the balance to the maps -- many rounds end with the winning team possessing a single-digit quantity of tickets. Now, that scenario isn't altogether unheard of in vanilla-BF2, but the frequency with which it is achieved in POE2 makes a positive statement about the development of this mod.

At any rate, the variation and balance afforded by this mod is a very welcome alternate to vanilla-BF2 gameplay that many veteran BF2 players are bound to appreciate.

With a new array of maps and vehicles, this may well be the ticket to reinvigorating the BF2 community.

And so excited were we at Modern Templars to receive word of the mod, we have setup our unranked server to run the mod exclusively.

Please join us for a few rounds! POE2 really does provide a purpose to BF2's existence; I've heard it said that POE2 is everything BF2 should have been, and I have absolutely no reason to refute that statement. It really is that good.

The Modern Templars POE2 Server: 67.19.103.122:16567

The mod itself is a 1GB download; links can be found here: http://www.pointofexistence.com/mirrorlist3.php#fullclient

See you on the battlefield!

TWL 5v5 Infantry -- Recruiting

The Modern Templars are specifically looking for help on our 5v5 Infantry roster.  If you, or someone you know, are interested in competing with us on TWL, then please let me know as soon as possible.  We currently have a sufficient number to field a team, but I would like to have a few alternates too (don't take this the wrong way -- everyone who shows up GETS PLAYING TIME.)  I just want a little breathing room, that's all.

Again, if you're interested in playing 5v5 on TWL, then let me know!

Fixes for 1.3

EA said ...
We recognize that this has been a very trying time for everyone who enjoys Battlefield 2 and are putting forth every effort to improve upon the issues that are causing some players frustration. The DICE team has been reviewing player feedback gathered from forums, email, and the ranker server providers in an effort to provide the best possible step forward from 1.3. While this work has been highly focused on bug fixing the team has also managed to put some work towards new content.

Some groups have noticed the testing of a new map
Road to Jalalabad
being run on our test servers. This map will be included in our next patch release and is not part of a new booster pack. Some of the items on the change list for this next step are:

* Reversion: Allowing unlocks on unranked servers
* Fix/Reversion: We fixed the issue preventing mod teams from running multiple game modes in one map list.
* Tuning: We have lowered the number of players needed to start a ranked game.
* Tuning: We have made some modifications to the vehicle drop feature introduced in 1.3. These changes should reduce the overall impact of "cartillery" on game play.
* Crash Fix: We have located and fixed a crash connected to 1.3.

These are only a small portion of the fixes being worked on for our next step. We would also like to announce that we will be holding an Open Beta in early July for this next patch. We will have public servers hosted, Beta files available on mirror sites, and specific threads for feedback during this Beta period hosted on the EA forums.
